Objectives Menopause is a crucial period of women's lives and in long-term can be very problematic, including their sexuality. However, sexual dysfunction in women is associated with cognitive beliefs. Given the importance of women's attitudes toward menopause in relation to their mental, physical, and sexual health. This is a study to investigate the relationship between sexual performance and attitude toward menopause in postmenopausal women referred to Torbat Heydariyeh City health centers.
Methods & Materials This is a cross-sectional study on 200 women referred to health centers were chosen by available sampling. Data collection tools were The Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and the Newgarten Menopause Attitude Questionnaire. Data were analyzed in SPSS v. 18 by using descriptive tests (Mean±SD, frequency) and analytical test (Chi-square) at the significance level of 0.05.
Results The results showed that the Mean±SD of age of the subjects was 57.18±7.93 years and the Mean±SD of duration of menopause was 7.00±7.80 years. Only 27.5% of the subjects had good sexual function and 129 (64%) women had a negative attitude toward menopause. There was no relationship between sexual function and attitude towards menopause (P=0.07).
Conclusion  Based on the results, a large number of women's attitudes toward menopause was low and most postmenopausal women also had sexual dysfunction; as a result, optimal and efficient educational planning is needed to change women's attitudes and increase their level of health and quality of life.
