اهداف: پایین بودن سواد رسانه‌ای و مواجهه با محتوای تولیدشده توسط رسانه‌ها در جریان همه‌گیری کووید ـ 19 می‌تواند سلامت افراد جامعه را تحت تأثیر قرار دهد. بنابراین این مطالعه به منظور بررسی آثار روان‌شناختی دنبال کردن رسانه‌ها بر سلامت روان سالمندان مقیم جامعه صورت گرفت.
مواد و روش ها: این مطالعه از نوع توصیفی تحلیلی بوده که به صورت مقطعی در سال 1399 و در شهر کرمان انجام گرفت. 200 سالمند به روش نمونه‌گیری در دسترس از سالمندان تحت پوشش مراکز روزانه توانبخشی وکانون بازنشستگان انتخاب شدند. سؤالات پرسش‌نامه شامل اطلاعات جمعیت‌شناختی (شامل سن، جنسیت، تحصیلات، شغل، وضعیت تأهل و درآمد) و سؤالاتی در خصوص وضعیت استفاده از رسانه‌ها بود. جهت سنجش سلامت روان نیز از نسخه دوازده‌سؤالی پرسش‌نامه GHQ که روایی و پایایی آن در مطالعات مختلف مورد تأیید قرار گرفته است (آلفای کرونباخ 0/8)، استفاده شد. 
یافته ها: میانگین سنی افراد مورد مطالعه 5/08±‌66/60 سال بود. بیش از سه‌چهارم افراد مورد مطالعه اخبار کووید ـ 19 را از طریق رسانه‌ها دنبال می‌کردند و رادیو و تلویزیون داخلی مهم‌ترین منبع دریافت این اخبار معرفی شدند. از نظر سلامت روان، 77/4 درصد از وضعیت مطلوبی برخوردار نبودند. یافته‌های حاصل از رگرسیون لجستیک حاکی از این بود که تحصیلات بالاتر (0/003>P)، شاغل بودن (0/001=P) و عدم دنبال کردن اخبار کووید ـ 19 از طریق رسانه‌ها (0/001>P) به عنوان عامل حفاظتی سلامت روان و افزایش میزان استفاده از رسانه‌، عامل خطری برای سلامت روان سالمندان در دوران کووید ـ 19 بود.
نتیجه گیری: بر اساس یافته‌های مطالعه حاضر سلامت روان سالمندان در دوران پاندمی کووید ـ 19 تحت تأثیر نوع و میزان استفاده از رسانه‌های مختلف قرار دارد. به سالمندان توصیه می‌شود از پیگیری مستمر اخبار مرتبط با کووید به‌ویژه اخبار از منابع غیرموثق اجتناب کنند. مدیران رسانه‌ای هم بایستی نظارت بیشتری بر محتوای تولیدشده در ارتباط با بیماری کووید ـ 19 داشته باشند.
