اهداف در این تحقیق سعی بر آن بود تأثیر یک دوره برنامه اصلاحی کایفوز روی عملکرد جسمانی، تعادل و کیفیت زندگی مردان سالمند مبتلا به هایپرکایفوز بررسی شود.
مواد و روش ها شرکت‌کننده‌های تحقیق را ۲۴ مرد سالمند مبتلا به کایفوز ≥۵۰ درجه تشکیل‌ می‌دادند که به ‌صورت تصادفی در یک گروه ۱۲‌نفری آزمایش (با میانگین سنی ۲‌/۶۷±۶۸/۷۵، قد ۳/۷۵±۱۷۳/۶۶ و وزن ۴‌/‌۷۵±‌۷۳/۵) و یک گروه ۱۲‌نفری کنترل (میانگین سنی ۲‌‌/۶۴±‌۶۹/۵۰، قد ۷/۷۸±‌‌۱۷۴/۴۱ و وزن ۵/۲۱±‌۷۵/۴۱) طبقه‌بندی شدند. شرکت‌کننده‌های گروه آزمایش در یک برنامه تمرین اصلاحی‌ که شامل شش تمرین بود، شرکت کردند. این برنامه به مدت ۱۲ هفته و هر هفته سه جلسه اجرا شد. میزان کایفوز سینه‌ای با استفاده از خط‌کش منعطف و در فاصله مهره‌های T۲ تا T۱۲ اندازه‌گیری شد. عملکرد جسمانی با تست راه‌رفتن ۶‌دقیقه‌ای، تعادل ایستا با آزمون شارپندرمبرگ در دو وضعیت چشمان باز و بسته و کیفیت زندگی با پرسش‌نامه SF-۳۶ ارزیابی شدند. برای تجزیه و تحلیل داده‌ها از آزمون تحلیل کوواریانس در سطح معنی‌داری ۰/۰۵>P استفاده شد.
یافته ها نتایج تحقیق نشان داد برنامه اصلاحی کایفوز تأثیر مثبت معنی‌داری بر عملکرد جسمانی و تعادل مردان سالمند مبتلابه کایفوز ≥۵۰‌ درجه دارد (P>۰/۰۵). علاوه براین، شاخص‌های درد جسمانی، عملکرد جسمانی، محدودیت جسمانی، سلامت عمومی و سلامت روانی مربوط به کیفیت زندگی نیز بعد از اجرای برنامه تمرینی اصلاحی، بهبود معنی‌داری نشان دادند(۰/۰۵>P) در حالی که دیگر ابعاد کیفیت زندگی بهبود معنی‌داری پیدا نکردند (P>۰/۰۵).
نتیجه گیری بر اساس نتایج این تحقیق‌ می‌توان گفت برنامه تمرینات اصلاحی این تحقیق می‌تواند در بهبود عملکرد جسمانی، تعادل و کیفیت زندگی مردان سالمند و کاهش بار اقتصادی ناشی از بیماری‌ها، مشکلات و عوارض مربوط به سالمندی مؤثر باشد؛ بنابراین، توصیه می‌شود از این برنامه تمرین اصلاحی برای بهبود کیفیت زندگی سالمندان و زمینه‌سازی برای دوران سالمندی رضایت‌بخش استفاده شود.
