Objectives The growing elderly population worldwide, including in Iran, is one of the challenges for social and health systems. Paying attention to healthy lifestyle behaviors in promoting the health of the elderly is essential. The present study aimed to determine the lifestyle of older adults in Yasuj, Kohgiluyeh & Boyer-Ahmad Province, Iran.
Methods & Materials In this descriptive cross-sectional study, 425 older people referring to health centers in Yasuj city in 2025 participated. They were selected from 6 health centers using a multi-stage cluster random sampling method. The data were collected using a sociodemographic form and a standard lifestyle scale for the elderly. The data were analyzed in SPSS software, version 27 using descriptive and analytical statistics. The significance level was set at 0.05.
Results The mean age of the participants was 66.95±5.52 years. Most of them were male (52.2%), married (79.8%), retired (33.4%), with a monthly income of 11-15 million Tomans. Also, 63% of the samples reported a history of at least one chronic disease, mainly hypertension (50.6%). Based on the scores, the elderly’s lifestyle was at a moderate level. The highest mean score was in the prevention domain, and the lowest in the exercise domain. The lifestyle score showed a statistically significant difference by age (P<0.05), gender (P<0.01),marital status (P=0.001), monthly income level(P=0.001), housing status(P=0.001), and history of chronic disease(P=0.001). Based on the multivariate linear regression model, monthly income was the strongest predictor of lifestyle(B=-0.2, P=0.001), followed by age (B=-0.14, P=0.002) and housing status (B=-0.12, P=0.03).
Conclusion Designing appropriate programs for the elderly in Yasuj, including public sports programs, healthy lifestyle education in health centers, and support for vulnerable elderly people, is an important step towards promoting their lifestyle.
