Introduction: The increasing growth of the elderly population in the world and Iran is one of the challenges to the social and health systems. Paying attention to healthy lifestyle behaviors in promoting the health of the elderly is essential. The present study was conducted to determine the lifestyle of the elderly in Yasuj city.
Materials and Methods: In this descriptive-cross-sectional study, 425 elderly people referring to health centers in Yasuj city in 1404 were studied. The research samples were selected from 6 health centers using a cluster and multi-stage random sampling method. The required information was collected through a demographic information form and a standard questionnaire on healthy lifestyle in the elderly. After collection, the information was analyzed using SPSS version 27 software and descriptive and analytical statistics. The significance level for all data was considered to be 0.05.
Results: The results of the study showed that the average age of the participants in the study was 66.95±5.52 years, 52.2% were male, married (79.8%), retired (33.4%), and most of the elderly's income was in the income range of 11 to 15 million tomans per month. Also, 63% of the samples reported a history of at least one chronic disease, mainly hypertension (50.6%). Based on the results, the lifestyle of the elderly in Yasuj was at a moderate level. The highest mean score was related to the field of prevention, and the lowest mean score was for exercise. In addition, the lifestyle of the elderly showed a statistically significant relationship with the variables of age, gender, marital status, income status, housing, and the presence of chronic disease. Based on the results of multivariate linear regression, income was the strongest predictor of lifestyle, followed by age and housing status.
Conclusion: Designing appropriate programs to improve the lifestyle of the elderly, including public sports programs, healthy lifestyle education in health centers, and supporting vulnerable elderly people, is an important step towards improving and promoting the lifestyle of the elderly.
