Abstract
Objectives: Considering the importance of assessing living standards in society, the aim of this study was to design a living standards questionnaire and to assess the validity and reliability of the questionnaire in the Iranian elderly community.
Methods & Materials : This is a methodological study. Initially by reviewing the theoretical and empirical bases in this field such as English-language questionnaires, 45 questions were selected for developing living standards questionnaire. Then, the content and face validity of the questionnaire was evaluated using the comments of ten university experts. Also, structural validity (factor analysis with Varimax rotation) was investigated. After determining the validity, the questionnaire was filled out by 150 elderly people aged 60 and over. The internal consistency reliability was investigated using Cronbach's alpha and Split-half reliability. Data were analyzed by SPSS-22 software.
Results:: The mean age of the samples was 63.74 and the standard deviation was 2.99. The results also showed that the content validity of the questionnaire was 0.85.  In the structural validity assessment, the KMO value was 0.853, and three factors (Living Facility, Housing situation and Household expenditures) explained 56.8% of the total variances together. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.859 for the total scale and the Gutmann-split half coefficient was 0.859.
Conclusions: The results of the study showed that the living standards questionnaire was valid and reliable questionnaire in Tehran's elderly community.
