Objectives: Health care providers have different attitudes toward old people and having a negative attitude toward elderly, can affect on providing effective services for them . So this study was conducted to determine the attitudes of Occupational Therapy students and alumni towards elderly.
Methods & Materials: A cross - sectional / analytical study was conducted on 125 students and alumni of Occupational Therapy with mean age of 22/4±1/24(70 women, 55men). The subjects were selected using convenience sampling method. Data collection tools were Kogan’s attitude toward older people (KAOP) scale and a demographic questionnaire.  For statistical analysis, Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann- Whitney test were used. All the statistical operations were done using SPSS17 in significance level of P≤0.05.
Results: The mean score of the attitudes of occupational therapists toward elderly was 151/448 that is an intermediate attitude. The highest scores were regarded to subjects in PhD, subjects with more than 5 years practical experience and subjects who were working in psychiatry field. The mean score of persons who had an experience of caring of the elderly and persons without this experience were the same (mean=151). There was a statistically significant relation (P <0.05) between attitude score and educational grade of subjects but there was no significant relation between attitude score and practical experience, working field and experience of caring of the elderly(P >0.05).
Conclusion: According to the conclusions of this study, the attitudes of Occupational Therapists toward elderly tends to positive side but because of more contacts with old people, yet  this attitude score is not enough. So the results of this study can be a base for the program of attitude promotion toward elderly in future studies.
