Objectives: Interpersonal relations play determinative roles in a wide range of life domains. The effects of interpersonal variables on mental health and personality disorders are verified. Present study was conducted aiming to investigate the role of abnormal personality dimensions in prediction of elderly interpersonal problems.
Method and Materials: This descriptive study is of correlational type. Study population included all elderly people of Tabriz city, 294 of whom were selected via purposive sampling, in 1396. In order to collect data, Personality Inventory for DSM-5 _Brief form (PID-5-BF)_ and Inventory of Interpersonal Problems (IIP - 32) were used as research tools. SPSS software version 32 is used to enter the data, and analysis was conducted by descriptive and inferential statistics including mean, standard deviation, Pearson correlation coefficient, Kolmogorov- Smirnov Test, and multiple regression.
Results: The results yielded from correlation coefficients depicted that there is a significant relationship between abnormal personality dimensions and interpersonal problems (p<0.05). The results obtained from hierarchical regression revealed that 59.2 percent of the interpersonal problems variance was explained via abnormal personality dimensions. Also, noting Beta coefficients and value of t, psychoticism, antagonism, detachment, and disinhuibition dimensions were significant in p<0.01 level, respectfully.
Conclusion: Considering the results of this research, one can regard abnormal personality dimensions of elderly individuals as a favorable prediction for interpersonal problems.
