Abstract:   (745 Views)
Objectives: The present study aims to understand and explain the experiences of older people of the phenomenon of aging.
Method: This study was conducted using the hermeneutic phenomenological method. Sampling lasted from june 2014 to August 2015 and continued until new themes were no longer emerging. Data were collected through 10 phenomenological interviews with older people and then analyzed for descriptions of the concept of aging.
Results: Seven themes were extracted from the data, including the scent of deterioration, submerging in the turbulence of thoughts, lost dignity, deepened spiritual tendencies, wishing a good end to one’s life, transcendence and the preservation of possessions.
Conclusion: Older people’s perceptions and explanations of aging can provide valuable data to gerontologists and professionals in related health, education and social fields that can be used for reducing the problems faced by this group, for devising better programs that ensure the health and wellbeing of older people, for establishing better relationships with them, for promoting gerontology and, ultimately, for improving quality of life in this group.
