Objectives: Although marriage in the aging period is recommended as a way to improve the quality of life and reduce the loneliness of elders, there is no study to measure the satisfaction of the elders with marriage in the aging period. Therefore, this study is to determine the marital satisfaction extent among elders who were married during old ages.
Method: This is a cross sectional study conducted in Sanandaj in 1395. The available sampling method was used. The research participants are 190 people at the age of 60 and olders who are married in old ages. Data’s were collected by Enrich marital satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS23 software, descriptive and analytical statistics, and independent t-test.
Results: The average age of participants in research was 67.37 with standard deviation 11.24 Marital satisfaction average was 36.95 with standard deviation 3.70. More than 60 percent of elders who got married in aging period, reported their marital satisfaction high and very high, while just 3.7percent of them said they have a low marital satisfaction. Results of statistical analysis showed that there was not any significant difference among man and women in the marital satisfaction extent.
Conclusion: Results of this study, showed a high marital satisfaction extent among elders. These results can be a resource to encourage elders who are not married, to get married in old age.
